Taurus SC

A fipronil-based non-repellent liquid termiticide — the generic equivalent of Termidor SC. This is the heavy hitter for subterranean termite control and long-term perimeter barriers. The "SC" is suspension concentrate.

01Usage

What it's for and where it goes.

Targets: Subterranean termites (primary), plus ants (including nuisance/foraging ants), and listed perimeter pests.
Where: Soil trenching and treatment around structure foundations; perimeter/exterior barrier applications.
Rate: Typically diluted to 0.06%–0.125% depending on target (termites vs. ants). Shake well — it's a suspension.
Non-repellent = "transfer effect": Insects can't detect it, walk through it, and carry it back to the colony, killing nestmates. This is why fipronil is so effective on termites and ants.

Subterranean termites — colony-level — fipronil is industry-leading here because it is non-repellent: termites and ants cannot detect it, walk through the treated soil, and carry it back to nestmates (the "transfer effect"), taking down the colony rather than just the foragers. Multi-year residual in soil makes it the standard for foundation trench barriers, and it gives excellent colony-level nuisance-ant control (EPA fipronil / Termidor-class registration).
Not a fast contact spray — its value is slow transfer and long residual.

04Dangers

What it can hurt — read this before you reach for it.

Signal word CAUTION, but fipronil warrants respect.
Licensing: Termiticide use is often restricted to licensed/registered applicators — many states (check PA rules) require certification for structural termite work. Confirm you're permitted before structural application.
Highly toxic to bees, fish, and aquatic invertebrates. Do not allow to enter water or storm drains.
Toxic to some birds and to non-target insects. Fipronil is persistent in soil (that's the point) but that also means care near gardens and water.
Avoid skin/eye contact; wash after handling.

Toxicity: fipronil is the same active as many dog flea/tick spot-ons (dosed for dogs), but concentrated soil/perimeter use is a different exposure; ingestion signs can include GI upset, agitation and, at high dose, tremors/seizures (NPIC Fipronil General Fact Sheet). It is persistent in soil by design.
When safe again: the sheet gives no fixed pet interval; because most use is a sub-surface soil trench around the foundation, the dog exposure is low once backfilled — keep dogs off any surface spray until fully dry, and out of open trenches. Default fully dry / trench closed, ideally 24h. Confirm your applicator licensing before structural work.

General guidance. Confirm the label's re-entry interval and ask your vet; when unsure keep dogs off until fully dry.

How to keep it, and keep it separate.

Store in original container, tightly sealed, cool/dry, away from children, food, feed, and water sources.
Shake before every use — settling is normal for an SC.
